Shows first-run movies from India and Pakistan
The Jackson Heights South Asian community caters to its members' cultural needs, ranging from religion, to food, to clothing, to entertainment. The Eagle Theater is a 450 seat movie theater owned by brothers Tahir Mehmood and Shahid Mehmood, originally of Pakistan. About 90% of the films screened at the Eagle are first-run products of "Bollywood," the bustling Mumbai film industry.
In the mid 1990s, after a stint as a porn theater, the Earle--a fixture in downtown Jackson Heights since the 1930s--was reborn the Eagle, a popular Indian and Pakistani-language movie house.
