1939 World's Fair relic converted into a fire house
I was assigned there out of Firefighter School. In 1982, I was the first African-American woman to graduate from the fire academy. I was also the first African-American and second woman to be promoted to Fire Marshal. I was also in the first class of 11 women. The building was constructed in 1939 as a showcase fire house for the Flushing World's Fair. It has not changed externally since then.
