This building's wonderful design symbolizes the dawning of the skyscraper era in NYC. I love skating down Fifth Ave and watching it appear like the great bow of a ship.

My great grandfather was the contractor for this building. He came to the U.S. as an immigrant and started as a construction worker. He went on to have a very successful contracting business and was also a developer.

The building is unique and is a visual icon for New York City. It represents a period of growth and development that remains important to the history of the city.

Just the shape of the building alone is significant and would be missed. (May 2008)
