Nominations

Stanley Cogan

Before recent demolition, this was a rare survivor of the time when College Point was THE place for beer gardens. Built in 1870s, it was a hotel, restaurant, bar and beer garden.

My dad was the night-time bar tender at Flessel's when I was in junior and senior high school, and during part of my college years, maybe longer. But 1982 to 1989. We'd occasionally visit him "at work," and eat dinner (traditional German food) at the restaurant. I'm sad to hear that the building has been torn down. (November 2011)
