The first organized cooperative loft building for artists in SoHo
Fluxhouse Cooperative was the first of a series of artists' cooperatives created by George Maciunas, visionary community builder and founder of the FLUXUS art movement. While the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District is already a landmarked district, but the socio-political role of the early artist-in-residence movement is not well-known.
The main threat is the boutiquing of SoHo, the consequent explosion of real estate values, and the death of the area as an artistic community.
