Civic activist Jane Jacobs and community groups helped create a moderate-income cooperative out of this NYC housing project, including a school, playground and garden, which is seen by the neighborhood as "our community's botanical garden."

The cooperators have kept the gardens going for years. I call it our community's botanical garden. It brought me comfort when my father passed away to be in this garden. My children played on the grounds when they were growing up.
