Washington Place Block Association

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire happened on the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place. The cobblestones recall that era, and are a reminder of what the Village used to look like.

New York University asked the NYC Dept. of Transportation to asphalt over the cobblestones last year. Our Block Association, with the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, the Historic Districts Council, and others, saved the cobblestones.
