Was the best Chinese food in Brooklyn and Queens at one time.

Harry Matthews

This is a thriving Chinese take-out/eat-in restaurant, operating in three connected storefronts. In a highly diverse neighborhood, they attract a highly diverse clientele, especially with their Wednesday all-you-can-eat buffet.

On a street where restaurants have been sprouting like mushrooms after the rain, Kum Kau remains the busiest spot in the neighborhood. The decor is flashy, including a waterfall wall that fascinates kids. The huge red and green sign cannot be missed. The corner of Myrtle and Washington would be a lot darker without it. (Feb. 2010)
