Matt Postal

Mark Rothko spent his last years here before committing suicide in 1970. The studio bore witness to his last period of painting--one, which in contrast to his earlier color work, became increasingly dark and somber. It is said that the artist shrouded his studio skylight with a parachute, creating the dimness necessary for creating these final works.
