Former currency minting company, now home to an arts and dance center
From 1911 to 1986 the Banknote Building housed a minting company that printed foreign currency. This historic building is now home to BAAD! The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, which includes artist studios, performance spaces and the innovative Arthur Aviles Typical Theater.
What makes this place important is its beauty and stately appearance. Built in 1911, it made banknotes for many countries. Its medieval looking tower can be admired from as far as Southern Boulevard.
