Place Matters Profile

Nominations

Annie Nelson

When I arrived, the pastor had been there for over 25 years. You know people who are devoted to the church. It has grown and lasted, pronouncing its longevity. It started in the McBride kitchen (1954?) before going to a storefront. James McBride was the leader. He wrote "The Color of Water," about the church and interracial issues. The first pastor's wife was Jewish, the only white woman in Red Hook in those days. The current pastor is Martin Reid.
