Place Matters Profile

Nominations

Martin Salwen

Prospect Park South is a gem of an historic district with many distinctive homes mostly built between 1900 and 1909 on standard city plots. It is well maintained and distinctive, and represents a distinctive community.

The houses are particularly important. Preservation has worked to protect many (but not all) of these homes from destructive renovations.

There is currently an active program of restoration of the streetscape. Corner brick and sandstone monuments are being restored, and there are plans to restore-reinstall the cast-iron street-signs. (August, 2006)
