World Music venue in SoHo
S.O.B.'s (Sounds of Brazil) opened in 1982, and quickly became one of New York's most prominent venues for the music of the Afro-Latin Diaspora. Owner and director Larry Gold aimed to provide a unique opportunity for musicians and listeners to engage with the rich heritages of diverse musical cultures. Although S.O.B.'s has gained a reputation for promoting Latin and Afro-Latin music, it has also developed a mission of exposing audiences and emerging musicians to the broader World Music scene. It is now widely considered to be among the premier venues for World Music anywhere. It's also a great deal of fun! (February 2011)
