A gateway to the Sunnyside neighborhood
It was the centerpiece of an attempt to both re-establish and revitalize the commercial side of Sunnyside undertaken by activists about 20 years ago. With the demise of the group, the Arch and the entire area (marked by special paving stones) has totally disintegrated. The Arch is abandoned, the lighting inoperative, and the area allowed to uglify non-stop. The Arch is about 30-40 feet high so it has a presence, even though it shows signs of abandonment. No one "owns" it, but I assume Queens is legally responsible.
