Community garden in Hunts Point
The Barretto Street Garden was founded roughly 25 years ago by the late Henry Font, a neighborhood resident with a passion for nature, and a desire to give his community the opportunity to harvest fresh vegetables and a place for children to play. With the help of family and neighborhood volunteers, the garden became a gathering place for community residents, and a place to hold events from barbecues to birthday parties. Although apathy in recent years has left the garden in need of revitalization, it is as beautiful as ever, and remains an asset to the Hunts Point neighborhood.
Founded by the late Henry Font, this is one of the first community gardens in Hunts Point.
