Place Matters Profile

Nominations

David Provan

This block of West 52nd Street, from the 1930s to the late 1940s, was home to jazz clubs like the Three Deuces, Birdland and Onyx. Sometimes called "Swing Street" or the "street that never slept" it was the center of the jazz world for over a decade. The 21 Club is the sole survivor of that era.
